The Largest and the Best Charity Event / Show in Florida

For Raising Fund for China Earthquake Relief

傑城中國同鄉會成功舉办“讓世界充滿愛”大型愛心募捐義演活動

June 15, 2008, many in Jacksonville and north Florida spent the Father’s Day Sunday in a special, memorable way at the Lazzara Performance Hall on UNF campus. A hugely successful charity event to benefit the 5-12 Sichuan China earthquake victims was held here in the afternoon/evening from 2-9pm, consisting of a poster/video show, a silent auction and a professional performance show. All activities aimed at raising fund to support the earthquake’s relief efforts and raising the awareness of JCA’s involvement with community affairs. All activities sent the same clear messages to Wenchuan, to Sichuan, to China and to the world: “United we stand 衆志成城,for the China Earthquake Relief 抗震救災” and “Fill the World with LOVE 讓世界充滿愛!” By far, this is the largest and probably the best charity event / show in Florida for raising fund for China earthquake relief.

The charity event was presented by JCA (Jacksonville Chinese Association) in collaboration with UNF (University of North Florida) and SinoElite Group from Orlando after merely 3 weeks of preparation.

Before 2pm, volunteers who wore customized T-shirts displaying “China Earthquake Relief, 中國.汶川 5.12.08” had already been staged for the poster show and the silent auction. The special T-shirts’ sale was a success story in itself. The poster show included about 30-40 elaborately decorated poster displays. The formats ranged from maps, photo clips, articles, diaries to drawings and cartoons. The contents were informational, condolent and morale-lifting. The silent auction raised more than $2,200 and dinner certificates turned out to be one of the best sellers. The total proceeds amounted to ~$25,000 (including event sponsorship, silent auction, charity show tickets and onsite donations, etc.). Along with previously raised fund by JCA, the entire event proceeds (minus limited event operating expense) will be sent to the Red Cross Society of China for the Sichuan earthquake relief soon.

Mr. Ding Zhou, Deputy Consul General from the Chinese Consulate General in Houston appeared at the performance show that started shortly after 6:30pm. In his brief and warm speech, Deputy Consul General Zhou highly appraised the humanitarian acts by JCA and all partners and friends who made this event possible with a short preparation period. The performance show, presented by the SinoElite Group in Orlando and supplemented by JCA, JCA Chinese School kids, the Chinese Christian Church of Jacksonville and local professionals, was passionately received by an audience of 800+ people. (See a separate introduction for details). Towards the end, performers and JCA members went onto the stage to sing two inspiring songs: “Fill the World with Love” and “Sacrifice for Love.” The love we demonstrated at the event transcended borders and would last beyond ages. Again, we thank all JCA members, participants, performers, volunteers, donors, supporters, sponsors and friends for making this exciting event an astounding success.
